act of murder

Dr Brady witnesses his neighbour’s ten-year-old son Stevie killed by a hit-and-run driver. The little boy had Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bones). A few days later, one of Dr Brady’s patients die due to complications and as a standard procedure, Brady is at his patient’s autopsy. At the morgue, Dr Brady comes across another autopsy – a young boy of ten with a twisted spine. Brady learns the little boy had Osteogenesis Imperfecta. What’s shocking is the little boy on the autopsy table looks very similar to Stevie.

Dr Brady is now curious and decides to find out more about Stevie and his alleged twin brother. Soon, a sinister plot involving money is uncovered and as Brady is close to solving the case, he comes face-to-face with the little boy’s killer.

What an engrossing medical thriller! The romance was a bit too cheesy for my taste but apart from that, I really enjoyed this thriller.

An orthopaedic surgeon turned amateur sleuth, doesn’t it sound great? Dr Brady’s curiosity is what moves the case further. Nobody saw the driver who hit little Stevie. All they saw was a partial plate and the colour of the car, which is of not much use. But Brady’s discovery at the morgue is the turning point of the story.

Little Stevie had a twin? The Huntleys(Stevie’s parents) never mentioned it. Did they give up the other kid for adoption? Dr Brady soon realizes one or two of his hospital staff are involved in the deaths of these two boys. it is up to Dr Brady to connect the dots and bring Stevie’s killer to justice.

The story gets a little too technical with medical diagnosis and stuff. Also, Dr Brady and his wife Mary Lousie share quite a steamy relationship! I like mysteries with a tinge of romance in them but the ‘romance’ here was too cheesy to handle! However, this did not spoil the read for me. The mystery is really good. The story picks up pace in the second half and the reader is in for a lot of twists and turns.

The identity of the perp is well-hidden until the end. The killer is cold-hearted, all right. Love for money goes a far way for some – but killing an innocent child for money? My, my!

Act of Murder is the debut in Dr Brady Mysteries. If you are looking for a unique thriller, I recommend you to give this book a try. I am certainly looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
